Our Story
We’re Ben and Lindsey, a couple from opposite sides of the world who are making things work by living in whatever wonderful places will have us. Visa challenges and the pandemic made it tough to be together. Sick of long distance and up for anything, we made a big leap and decided to pack our bags and meet on the beautiful island of Barbados. Now we don’t want to go home – we want to keep exploring!
It wasn’t easy. We have regular jobs and bills to pay, we just figured out how to do it from paradise. We both love exploring and learning about new places. We also both love writing and sharing stories.
This blog is to share funny stories, useful tips, and our genuine experiences. Hopefully you can find paradise wherever you are, too!
Meet Ben and Lindsey
Meet Lindsey:
Hi there! I’m Lindsey, a California native with a passion for travel and learning about other cultures. As a kid, I always dreamed of far off places, though my family never went farther than my dad’s favorite surf breaks.
I found learning about cultural differences would open my world in new and exciting ways. As I grew older this stayed the same, and I knew that I wanted to not just learn about the world, but experience it.
That’s why I went on my first solo trip at 18. It’s also why I have taken every opportunity I could to travel (while balancing the normal life stuff like finding a job and finishing college).
It’s also how I met Ben in London. And now, it has also led me to be with my very British husband living here on the tropical island of Barbados.
Meet Ben:
Hello, I’m Ben. I grew up in the countryside of England. To be honest, I never dreamed much about travelling when I was growing up – I always just wanted to move to London!
When I finally got to London (studying at university) I met people from all over the world and decided I wanted to see it. Since then, I’ve travelled across Europe, and in Asia.
After a long trip to Eastern Europe, I wrote an article which won a national travel writing competition. It got published, and I got £500 worth of tickets to travel with. I’ve always loved writing, but got settled into a career that didn’t give me the space to write or travel!
Fast forward to 2020, and in the midst of a pandemic, I left London to fly to Barbados and be with Lindsey. I changed my job, started writing again, and now we live working remotely and exploring amazing places together!
Fun Facts
- We met playing tag rugby in London!
- Ben has a PhD in Politics and History and will happily bore you about it any time
- Lindsey has been to every continent except Antarctica (hopefully coming soon)
- We got married in Barbados
- Ben has run two marathons – one in Athens and one in Amsterdam
- Lindsey has lived in four different countries
- We have a very cute cat named Mittens. She was a stray that walked up to our house one day and said meow
- Ben has two passports.
- Lindsey works as a Behavioral Scientist. If you ever got a text about getting a COVID vaccine, she might’ve written it!
- We’ve been learning to kitesurf together. It’s a lot of fun!
- Ben lived in Berlin and never got let into Berghain. (He’s not very cool.)
- Lindsey is a certified yoga instructor
